Abstract

Microscopic evaluation of blood smear is the basic examination procedure in the search for the cause of pathological values in blood counts. Excessive presence of schistocytes may reveal the presence of microangiopathic haemolytic anaemia in blood counts in anaemia and thrombocytopenia. The article is intended for health professionals for basic orientation in the examination procedure and in the cytological determination of schistocytes.
