Objective: Description of the case history of brain abscess as a rare complication of pelvic inflammatory disease

Design: Case report

Setting: Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Regional Hospital in Liberec

Case report: We discuss a woman in productive age who had seven years inserted non hormonal intrauterine device and developed pelvic inflammatory disease with no response on antibiotics therapy. After surgery some neurological symptoms led to a diagnosis of brain abscess.

Conclusion: Brain abscess is a rare but potentially lethal complication from pelvic inflammatory disease, needing prompt diagnosis and interdisciplinary cooperation.
