Abstract

Objective: Historical and current view on therapy of overactive bladder

Design: Review

Setting: Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University Hospital Hradec Kralove, Charles University, Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Kralové

Methods: This review summarizes historical approach and current therapy of overactive bladder. Articles were gathered from Pubmed and Scopus databases. Studies published before december 2020 were used for the review.

Results and Conclusion: Overactive bladder is a condition that reduces the quality of life of our pacients by quite a lot. Our therapeutic approach starts with nonfarmacological threatment, such as pelvic floor exercises. The next step is farmacologial approach. Entry level drug is Trospium. If the effect isn´t sufficient, Propiverin, Solifenacin, Fesoterodin, Darifenacin or Mirabegron is used. Electrostimulation or Botulotoxin A aplication is an option only in cases that didn´t respond to farmacological threatment. It is safe to say, that in the end, there is a way of reducing the severity of OAB symptoms for every patient.
