Vulvar carcinoma and its recidives - principles of surgical treatement

Abstract

Review work providing a basic overview of the pathogenesis, diagnosis and surgical treatment of vulvar cancer with a focus on the treatment of its recurrence. It includes an illustrative case report presenting a patient with invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva with iterative local recurrences with subsequent development of tumor triplicity and distant metastastic involvement. Evaluation of the role of surgical treatment, which remains the main modality of vulvar cancer therapy, even in the case of locally advanced or recurrent findings with the need for quality multidisciplinary cooperation in surgical disciplines. (Chemo) radiotherapy remains a possible alternative, in clinical practice radiotherapy has an irreplaceable place in adjuvant therapy.
