Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis
Abstract
Summary
Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis mainly affects women of childbearing age, mostly several months or up to years after breastfeeding. The etiopathogenesis is unknown to this day. And because clinical manifestations may mimic infectious mastitis or inflammatory carcinoma the diagnostic course is often prolonged. The correct diagnosis will be determined only on the basis of histopathological findings. To this day there is no uniform consensus on the treatment of idiopathic granulomatous mastitis. The chronic nature of the disease as well as the tendency to recur despite the benign nature of disease affects the quality of life of patients. Case reports from gynecological and obstetrics clinic in university hospital in Trenčín also point to an adverse effect on a woman's life.
