Effective hemotherapy is a therapeutic procedure in which blood components and SD plasma are applied with maximum safety and treatment effectiveness, while minimizing known risks. Important therapeutic procedures include Patient Blood Management, which represents simple and cost-effective evidence-based recommendations, divided into three thematic areas: correction of preoperative anaemia, reduction of intraoperative and postoperative blood loss, and guidelines for the indication of transfusion.
A consensually developed framework recommendation by professional societies defines the basic types of blood components and plasma derivatives intended for transfusion, their general indications in children and adults, their selection according to blood group compatibility, as well as possible adverse effects after their administration.
